Hello,
I am considering auditioning for the BUTI Piano Program, and I have a few questions:

1. I realize that Tanglewood is a selective program, but exactly how selective is selective? Is simply being able to play at a somewhat-advanced level good enough, or is world-class, "play a Chopin impromptu and Tchaikovsky concerto, now, at the same time" talent necessary? I honestly have no clue at what level my piano playing is; I've been playing since I was five, but I ditched the Suzuki method awhile ago and I took a bit of a hiatus for a year or so about a year ago. Any advice on how high I should get my hopes up for is appreciated.

2. What are scholarships and financial aid offerings like? If I do get into one of the three-week programs, I'm not sure that my family or I would be able to pay for the entire $3,000 ourselves.

3. What is the program like, in general? I can appreciate it if you think it was amazing, but exactly what made it amazing? Are the people that attend bright and interesting? Is the faculty helpful? What is Massachusetts like? etc.

4. If not Tanglewood, what other summer programs would you suggest?

Thanks in advance.

Does anybody have a copy of both the cello and piano parts to Faure's Apres un reve and/or Dvorak's Songs my Mother Taught Me that they would be willing to e-mail me?

Thanks a bunch.

hello!
Similar to Canto6866, I'm a BUTI '02 Alum (thinking of maybe being an RA next year...who knows.) My name's Jamie, and I was a Baritone in the YAVP, and now I go to McGill for Voice (or composition...haven't decided yet which to really concentrate on.) and Political Science. (Yeah Dual Degrees that take forever!)

It makes me so happy that there's finally a BUTI group on here. And i'm envious of you people who get to be in / hear the Chairman Dances this summer. I had to study them for my composition tutoring this past year and they make me happy.

And now that I've rambled on and made an ass of myself at 4 am...good night.

~Jamie

ps...does anyone here know what FOLT stood for? please? if so, respond and you will make my life filled with glee.

On the Bjork website today, I came across a page about a new Bjork album. I scrolled down, and came across this:

5. Hunter Vessel
Percussion: Samuel Solomon.
Programming, keyboards: Valgeir Sigurðsson.
Brass & woodwind arrangement: Björk.
Written & produced by Björk.

Is this the our Samuel Solomon, or is it just coincidence? If he has actually met Bjork and played on a Bjork album, I will become his best friend this summer.

gotta wash those dirty clothes
what's the laundry situation at BUTI??
are there washing machines there? and do we have to pay for them? or do we have to go into a laundromat in lenox or what??

[they should really make the lifebook more detailed]

p.s. this is my 1st year at BUTI so is there anything that any of you would suggest bringing that they don't say in the lifebook?

So, workshop in 10 days? Is it 10? 10 too many in any case. perhaps it is 6.02 x 10^23 days. Wouldn't that be a hoot!

Hellooo my little Tanglewood lovelies. The life book is on the website. It was really boring but for some reason I couldn't stop reading it. It was like "Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry" (this book I read in seventh grade that was so bad it was AMAZING!) But yeah I'm probably just insanely excited. Oh wait, I am! Ahh, only...wait a second...53 days! I think...that seems like a lot...whatever its so soon yet so far!
